Our vision for teaching Geography aims to provide all children with an enjoyable, engaging and inspiring Geography education which includes a range of experiences, forming a life-long love of Geography. We feel it is our responsibility to offer each child the opportunity to participate in the exploration of Geography both within the classroom and through specific fieldwork experiences. We want to inspire children to be curious about the natural and built environments both at home and around the world, invoking a curiosity about people and places. We hope that by providing children with an understanding of physical and human Geography they will then be able to use these skills to explore their surrounding area and the wider world. We also hope this foundation will provide them with a good understanding of Geography in order to support further learning at secondary school and beyond.
Geography provides children with an understanding of the world around them. It offers an opportunity for children to explore, appreciate and understand the world in which we live alongside creating opportunities for all children to explore different geographical locations. Through the study of human Geography, children gain an appreciation for other cultures and lifestyles around the world. Additionally, studying physical Geography develops each child’s understanding of the importance of our natural environment, conservation and sustainability as well as their map reading and drawing skills. Through their geographical education, children are also able to develop their research, investigation, analysis and problem solving skills.
