Music

At Ludgershall Castle Primary School, we have the following vision for music:

Our music curriculum aims to provide all children with an enjoyable, engaging and inspiring music education. Following a sequenced and progressive curriculum music enables children to build their understanding of the wider world, other cultures and to express their own identities. Our aim is for children to develop a life-long love of music.

We feel it is our responsibility as educators to offer each child the opportunity to participate in active music-making, both through playing instruments and singing, in groups and individually, and to establish foundations whereby music may become a recreation for later life. Inspiring the minds of future generations to be creative and to make musical choices based upon their emotions, understanding, experiences and appreciation of different types of music is another part of our vision.

We also aim to raise awareness of musical traditions in a variety of cultures and societies, as well as offering opportunities to experience personal curiosity, creativity and imagination by providing opportunities for self-expression and a sense of personal achievement. By doing so, we hope to increase every child's self-confidence and passion for music.

The school’s music curriculum follows the Kapow scheme of learning.

At Ludgershall Castle Primary School, all children have the opportunity to learn an instrument outside of their scheduled music lessons. Currently, the school offers:

  1. Ukulele Club
  2. Choir Club
  3. Guitar Lessons from a Wiltshire Music Connect associate
  4. Piano Lessons from a Wiltshire Music Connect associate
  5. Drum Lessons from a Wiltshire Music Connect associate

With help from the local music cluster, known as Wiltshire Music Connect, subsidies are available for families who need additional support to pay for these lessons. Through this, we can guarantee all children have equal access to pursue a musical interest and foster their enjoyment of music.
